Sizing/Pricing

Ready to request a commission? Firstly, you’ll need to decide which size portrait you would like.

Sizing here refers to the size of the paper; the drawing of your pet will fit comfortably within this. All portraits are drawn and coloured on Clairefontaine pastelmat. I generally work in neutral tones such as light grey, but if you have a specific background colour in mind, we can chat about that.

Table comparing prices for different print sizes: 6x8 inches costs $200 for one subject, 9x11 inches costs $300 for one subject and $420 for two subjects, 12x16 inches costs $480 for one subject, $600 for two subjects, and $720 for three subjects.

If you are unsure, I can recommend which size would work best based on your reference photos.

Before commencing, I ask for a $50 deposit to secure your booking which can be paid via PayPal or bank deposit (this goes towards the total cost of your portrait).

Reference Images

Next, you will need to send me some good images of your pet. I generally work from one main photo, but a selection is always welcome so I can get an accurate sense of their colouring, their markings, and their unique little personalities!

When it comes to choosing the best reference images, the more detail = the better portrait I can create for you!

Some tips:

  • Natural lighting/daylight is often the best

  • No filters

  • Make sure your pet is in focus

  • Eye level shots always work well in my opinion, but more dynamic angles can be fun too!

I understand getting the perfect shot is not always possible, especially when a beloved pet has passed. Don’t worry - send me the best pictures you have and I’ll always do my best with them.

When sending me your images, please do tell me a bit about your pet -  I love hearing their origin stories and any little quirks!

Process

Once we’ve sorted out the finer details, I’ll book you a slot in my waitlist and will be in touch again shortly before I start.

As I get your portrait under way, I’ll send a few updates as I go so you can follow the process and see your pet coming to life. The time it takes me to complete the drawing will also depend on the size of the portrait - I will do my best to give you an estimated time frame when booking.

If you’d ideally like your portrait by a certain date, do let me know and I will do my best to accommodate.

I share my work on instagram and often like to record progress videos as I go - I will always check with you whether you are okay with this! Some people are purchasing portraits as gifts and prefer to keep it secret until the portrait is in the recipient’s hands.

Completion

Once your pet portrait is complete, I will be in touch! I will usually send you a selection of photos so you can see the finished product. (Please note, small changes can sometimes be made at this stage, but there are limitations with pastel.)

When you are 100% happy with your portrait, your remaining payment can be made!
